My favorite travel diaper bag
The Getaway Bag is my favorite travel diaper bag for babies, toddlers, and even bigger kids.

If you love to be ultra-organized, this is the perfect carry-on for you. It was designed by parents, and they have created a pocket or a compartment for everything you could possibly need for your little one. I love it.
1. Birth certificate or passport, if needed
If your baby is flying on your lap, he/she may need their birth certificate in order to prove their age. Be sure to check what your airline requires. International flights will require a passport.
2. Diapers and wipes
Pack more than you think you’ll need in case of delays!
3. Changing pad
If you purchase the Sidekick along with your Getaway Bag, it comes with a foldable changing pad.
4. Change(s) of clothes
Depending on the length of the flight, I would bring at least 2, maybe more.
5. Disposable or wet bags
Plastic bags for dirty clothes, or diapers in a pinch. You can also use a reusable wet bag. (If you’re using the Getaway Bag, there is a built-in wet bag in the bottom compartment! I told you, the creators of this bag have thought of everything!)
6. Swaddle or blanket
Thin blankets are helpful because they can double as nursing covers, swaddles, burp cloths, or blankets if the plane is chilly.
7. Burp cloths & bibs
8. Feeding supplies
These might include:
- Bottles
- Formula
- Milk packed in a cooler
- Formula
- Breast pump
- Nursing cover
You are allowed to bring breast milk, ice packs, and prepared bottles including water for mixing formula in your carry-on, even if the amount of liquid is greater than 3.4 oz. They are considered “medically necessary” liquids.
If you are planning to travel with these items, I would just recommend leaving a little extra time for security, just in case they need to do any extra checks, or you need to clarify anything.
9. Snacks
If your baby is old enough to eat solid food, I would recommend low-mess snacks such as yogurt melts and pouches.
10. Pacifiers
Bring a few extras
11. Travel toys, teethers, books
Whatever will keep your baby entertained. Be sure to bring a few favorite books, toys, and teethers.
12. Wrap or baby carrier
This can be really helpful for boarding and exiting the plane, and walking through the airport.
Carry-on checklist for toddlers
Here is my list of what to include in a carry-on bag for a toddler:
1. Birth certificate or passport, if needed
If your toddler is flying on your lap, he/she may need their birth certificate in order to prove their age. Be sure to check what your airline requires. International flights will require a passport.
2. Diapers/pull-ups and wipes
Pack more than you think you’ll need in case of delays!
3. Change(s) of clothes
Depending on the length of the flight, I would bring at least 2.
5. Water bottle/sippy cup
Bring an empty water bottle or cup, and fill it up at a water station after you get through security.
6. Snacks
7. Bib
8. Travel toys and books
You can see our favorite activities for plane entertainment here!
9. Coloring supplies
10. Tablet and headphones
11. A favorite blanket, pillow, or stuffed animal
12. A jacket or sweatshirt
Airplanes can get hot or chilly, especially when you’re experiencing delays. Plan for both!
Carry-on checklist for kids
Here is my list of what to include in a carry-on bag for kids.
1. Passport, if needed
(If you are flying internationally.) Be sure to check with your airline to see if any additional paperwork is required for children.
2. Change(s) of clothes
For older kids, one change of clothes is usually sufficient, and very handy in case bags are delayed at your destination.
3. Water bottle
Bring an empty water bottle, and fill it up at a water station after you get through security.
4. Snacks
5. Toys, books, and travel activities
You can see our favorite activities for plane entertainment here!
6. Tablet and headphones
7. A favorite blanket, pillow, or stuffed animal
8. A jacket or sweatshirt
Carry-on checklist for parents
Here is my list of what to include in a carry-on bag as a parent:
1. Wallet, ID, boarding passes, & passports
2. Phone & charger
3. Keys
(If you drove to the airport)
4. Snacks & water bottles
Bring an empty water bottle, and fill it up at a water station after you get through security.
5. Pillow
6. Change of clothes
7. Hand sanitizer & disinfecting wipes
Just make sure your hand sanitizer is less than 3.4 oz.
8. Gum
This is helpful to pass out to kids while taking off or landing, to help their ears pop.
9. Jacket or sweatshirt
10. A small fan
Just in case there is a delay on the runway, during which the cabin might get hot and stuffy.
