Summer boredom busters for kids

Here is the list of some of my favorite ideas for kids to do when they say, “I’m bored!” this summer.

1. Play in the sprinkler

Any sprinkler will do! But if your kids play baseball or softball, they’ll really love this fun sprinkler. It’s one of my kids’ favorites.

2. Build something new with LEGOs

Be creative! Can you make a whole LEGO neighborhood with different homes, store, and shops?

3. Facetime a friend or relative

4. Prepare a talent show act

Write and preform a skit, puppet show, magic show, yoyo trick, dance, or song.

5. Play a board game

Find a friend or sibling and play a board game. If there’s no one else around, learn how to play solitaire with a real deck of cards.

6. Do a workout video

7. Make popsicles

My kids like to try growing the seeds they find for themselves in fruits and vegetables. We just put a few seeds in a ziplock bag with a wet paper towel and tape it to a window. They almost always sprout.

12. Reorganize all your books

Donate books you don’t read anymore, and organize the rest by type, topic, or color.

13. Invent a new smoothie flavor

Kids can either follow a recipe, or experiment to find the perfect combination of water, fresh-squeezed lemon juice and sugar for a delicious, refreshing cup of lemonade.
