A few days ago on my Instagram, I posted a video showing my girls using a “ready for school” checklist as they left the house for school one morning.
I’ve had a few requests to share the checklist, so I created a general version that you can use here. Just scroll down to download and print your own! 😉
The checklist
This printable checklist includes 6 things that your kids are likely to need for school each day:

Since library books and sneakers are only needed on some days, I included a line to write down which days they are needed on.
I also didn’t include homework, forms, papers, etc. because if those are needed, I do my best to make sure they are already packed in backpacks the night before.

How we use our checklist
Here’s a little video that I posted on Instagram showing how I teach my kids to use this checklist:
Just posting this paper on the wall won’t help your kids remember everything. They need to get in the habit of checking the list.
(I actually have my 5 year old point to each thing on the list and say out loud whether she has that item or not.)
That way, it becomes part of their routine as they’re about to walk out of the door.
This has really helped to make our school mornings a little bit more calm. I hope it does for you as well. Good luck!

Love this! My daughter is in 2nd grade and we’ve noticed she’s been blaming mom & dad when something doesn’t get packed. Her teacher suggested a checklist and I needed some inspiration. I think you hit the nail on the head with the most important part… teaching them to actually use it! Thanks a bunch from a busy working mom! This is just what I needed.
