I’ve shared about how I keep my kids’ special school papers in school memory boxes.
(You can see more about how I make those here.)
I’ve shared a few videos about these boxes over on Instagram, and I kept getting the same question over and over, every time I share.
How do you decide what school papers to keep and which ones to get rid of?
I get it! It can be overwhelming.
But there are 3 specific questions that you can ask yourself as you sort through your child’s school and artwork that will help you decide whether it’s something to keep or something to recycle.
Question 1: Does this show something unique about my child’s personality?
Anything personal and individual will be much more fun for your child to look back at later.
No need to save worksheets or workbooks! 😬
Question 2: Is there value in this product – or was the value more in the process?
Some projects are all about the process- the things our kiddos were able to learn and practice while completing them.
We love to display artwork and research papers for a short time, celebrate all the hard work that went into them, and then move on.
Just because there was value was in the process doesn’t mean we have to save the product.
Question 3: Is this piece of work the best in its category?
Time is your friend for this one. ⏰
At the end of the school year, look back and only save the best of each category [art projects, stories, pictures of the family, etc.]
When you look back at an entire year (or more!) of projects, it’s easier to tell which is the best of each category. 😉
We also don’t choose to save big or bulky projects. 🤷♀️
These are some things that we find helpful.
But you choose what works for you and your family! ❤️
Happy organizing!
