The Organized Mom Life

Simple solutions to help calm the chaos of motherhood

Spice organization

We have a lot of spices.

My husband loves trying out new recipes, which means that we regularly use a wide selection of them.

And they haven’t always been very organized. For a while, we were keeping them in a cardboard box down in our basement pantry. Trust me when I say that is not the ideal way to organize your spices. Haha!

I wanted a spice organization system where I could store a large amount of spices, in an easy-to-reach and easy-to-see location.

We have a small kitchen, with no extra cabinet or drawer space. So we decided to create open shelving on one of the walls in our kitchen, next to the counter and stove where the spices would be easily accessible.

Here’s how it turned out:

Building the shelves

My husband was in change of building the shelves. He bought the wood, cut it down to the right size for our wall, sanded, and spray painted it white.

Then he used these brackets to attach each shelf to the wall.

He did a great job- they are the perfect size, and feel very secure.

The spice jars

I bought these glass jars from Amazon. I counted all the spices I wanted to store first, and knew that I needed a lot. These jars came in a set of 48, which was perfect.

I even have a few extra jars to use if one breaks. I store the extras in a bin in our pantry (which you can see here) along with overstock spices- spices like taco seasoning that come in really big containers that didn’t all fit in these jars.

Labels

Although the jars I bought on Amazon did come with labels, I chose to purchase these labels as well, since I liked them better.

Unfortunately, there were about 5 spices that I wanted to include that did not come with this label set. (Like my Ranch seasoning!) For those, I had to try to match labels using my Cricut Joy.

My homemade labels are a little brighter white than the sticker labels I bought, but they’re close enough for me!

Decal

My sister gave me a fun vinyl decal that says Live life with a little spice, and it fits perfectly on the wall right above our spice shelves. I love how it completes everything.

I can’t find the exact decal that we have, but here are a few that are similar:

And that was the last step! It feels so good to have allll of our spices in one easy-to-access location.

If you have any questions about how we organized our spices, be sure to let me know in the comments.

Happy organizing!
