Sometimes it’s just so much work to go anywhere with a baby or toddler. I mean… they just seem to need so much stuff! You need a pool bag checklist.
But getting out of the house to enjoy the pool on a hot, summer day is definitely worth it. Especially if you have an organized pool bag all packed and ready to go.
I have three kids: 5, 3, and 10 months. Here’s what I pack in my pool bag. Trust me, if I can do it- you can, too!

The big stuff
- Towels: I bring one for every person who is coming to the pool
- Swimsuits and covers: Or just have everyone wear their swimsuits to the pool
- Change of clothes: Optional. Everyone could always just wear their swimsuits back home again.
- Flotation devices: If any of your kids use them, be sure to toss those into the bag.
- Wet bag: I include a wet/dry bag, like this one, for wet swimsuits.
The little stuff
- A small bag/pouch: One of these works great to keep all the little stuff together inside of your big pool bag
- Sunscreen: I also like to include a sunscreen stick, like this one, for my kids’ faces. They are seriously so easy.
- Sunglasses
- Hair brush and hair ties: I love my mini wet brush.
- Phone
- Keys
- Money: Cash (or passes) to get in, and/or money for the snack shop
- Band-Aids
- Auro Dri: Auro Dri (2 pack here) comes in super handy when you can’t get the water out of your ears.
- Chapstick
- Hand sanitizer
- Goggles
- Shampoo / body wash: I have my kids take a shower before we leave. This combination body wash and shampoo makes it really simple.
For your baby/toddler
- Diaper changing supplies (including swim diapers): I keep regular diapers, swim diapers, and wipes in the “dry” section of my wet/dry bag.
- Nursing cover or formula & bottle: If your baby will need to eat while you are out
- Pacifier
- Sun hat
- Toys
Other
- Water bottles: I love this amazing sippy cup for my baby, and these water bottles for my older girls. Don’t forget to bring water for yourself, too.
- Snacks
My pool bag
I got this bag a few years ago (I can’t find the link for this exact one, but if you search for large utility tote you’ll find a lot of options out there.) It is the only bag I own that is big enough to fit our entire family’s supply of towels. Plus snacks, water bottles, etc. This thing is amazing.

Hmm… I’m sorry, I’m not sure. We’ve had them for at least a decade! Haha!

Hi there! Could you please give rough estimates of the size of your tote? Just so I can visualize a little more? Thanks! Love your blog. Wonderful stuff 🙂
