Are you still packing bags for your entire family every time you go on a trip?
I see you, mama. I used to do the same thing, and it is exhausting!
But the good news is, even if your kids aren’t old enough to read a checklist yet, they might still be old enough to pack for themselves- With the help of a picture packing list, that is! 👏👏👏
A picture packing list is just what it sound like- a packing list that includes pictures so that even pretty young kids can follow along and pack their own travel bags.
How we use this list
My daughters are 5 and 7. My 5 year old can’t read yet, but because of the pictures, both girls can use these lists independently. 🙌 Here’s what we do:
1. Use a page protector
Each girl has her own list, which I put into a plastic page protector. That way I can write on the lists with a dry erase marker, wipe it clean when we’re done, and reuse the lists for the next trip.
2. Write down the number of each item that they’ll need
Next, I fill in the number of each item they’ll need to pack, depending on the length of the trip that we’re packing for.
3. Kids check off each item as they pack it
Again, the kids use a dry erase marker so that we can reuse the list again for the next trip. I usually do a quick double-check of everything they’ve packed, and then they put everything into their bags.
Done!
My kids love these lists because it gives them a little bit more independence.
Plus, they still think packing for a trip is fun. (No one tell them it gets old pretty fast when you’re an adult! 🤣)
I hope your kids love these as much as mine do.
Happy packing!
