Simple solutions to help calm the chaos of motherhood

Organizing Legos: Stackable Storage Bins

I have 4 kids. We’ve tried all the different methods for organizing Legos.

And I’ve learned that there’s no one perfect system.

You really have to figure out how your kids like to play with their Legos, and go from there. (For example, do they like to build a set once and then display the finished product? Do they build and take apart and rebuild the same sets over and over? Do they prefer to play creatively and make their own builds? I would organize Legos for those 3 kids in 3 completely different ways.)

Today I’m sharing one of the least expensive ways I’ve found to organize Legos by set. This is for a kid who likes to keep each of their Lego sets separate, maybe to play with, or maybe to take apart again and rebuild.

Where to find the storage boxes:

Just search for “6 quart stackable storage bins with snap-on lids.” You can find them at Walmart, on Amazon, and tons of other places, usually for about $2-$3 per box.

Stackable Storage Bins:

This system is great for birthdays or Christmas morning, because you can have the bins ready to go. As soon as the Legos get opened up, the unbuilt pieces can go straight into the bins, and you won’t have to worry about losing anything.

They are also great for the LEGO Creator 3-in-1 sets- our favorites! These sets can be taken apart and rebuilt in 3 different ways, so you really need a way to contain all the pieces, including the ones that aren’t being currently used. These boxes are perfect for that!

I saved the Lego boxes and cut pictures from each one to use as labels. Then I put one on the lid, and one inside the box so you can see which set it is from any direction. I attached the pictures with packing tape.
