If you have a small nursery, or are planning a nursery nook within a larger room, I have some ideas to help you organize and store all your baby things. Even without a closet, it is possible. We’re proof!

Our nursery
We created a small nursery, or nursery nook, in the space between our master bedroom and the master bathroom/closets. It was essentially a wide hallway where we could have put a few chairs and a small table to make a little seating area. Instead, we decided to turn it into a nursery.
This space might seem really small for a nursery, but we’ve found that it’s plenty of room for all the things we need for our baby. Plus, it’s right outside of our bedroom, which has turned out to be super convenient.
Let me take you on a little tour and show you how we store and organize all of Andrew’s baby things in here. 🙂
How we organize the nursery nook
The dresser / changing table
Our nursery nook has two bigger pieces of furniture in it. The crib, which is against one wall, and the dresser, which is against the other wall. We also use the dresser as a changing table.
Wall shelf
First of all, we have this cool shelf hanging above the dresser.
We use this shelf to hold a few items like a jar of pacifiers, our baby monitor, and an indoor/outdoor thermometer- which can be super handy to look at while you’re deciding how to dress the baby in the morning. 😉
Oh, and also…. aren’t little baby shoes just the sweetest? I can’t even handle the cuteness.
Dresser top
We use the dresser top as a changing table. I’m a big fan of diaper caddies, so I use a canvas basket to store a few diaper changing essentials.
It’s super convenient to have diapers and wipes out in an easy-to-reach location at all times.
Dresser drawers
Most of the storage in our nursery comes from the dresser itself. Here’s what we keep in each of the drawers:
I use these amazing drawer organizers to keep everything nice and neat. One drawer easily holds all of Andrew’s shoes, socks, bibs and burp cloths.
The other top drawer holds extra changing pad liners, cloth wipes, and a few different toiletries, including diaper cream, lotion, and his electric nail file.
I use one whole drawer for my cloth diapers and supplies. (It looks super empty in this picture because I haven’t done laundry in a while… haha!)
And the bottom two drawers hold all of the clothes in the size that Andrew is currently wearing.
Canvas baskets
In addition to the dresser drawers, we also have a shelf with a set of canvas baskets that we can use to store other supplies and clothes.
I’ve switched these out and used them to store different things at different times, but here is how I’m currently using them.
I love having pajamas and sleep sacks out in the top basket for easy bedtime (or middle of the night!) changes. You don’t want to be digging around for those in the early hours.
Andrew has reflux, so we go through a ton of blankets and bedding.
I keep the bottom two baskets free for miscellaneous clothes- things like hats or holiday outfits.
I also keep the mat that I use for our monthly photo shoots in one of the bottom baskets.
Odds and ends
In addition to the dresser and the basket shelf, we also have a trash can and a diaper pail. (I use the diaper pail for cloth diapers, so I also need a trash can in the nursery.)
Also, a lamp for nights when you don’t want to turn on the overhead light for a diaper change.
I use a small basket for laundry, and another one for blanket storage. These sit on either side of the dresser.
And then, of course, we have a crib.
And that’s pretty much everything that we find we need for our little nursery nook.
Where’s everything else?
There are a few baby things that you won’t find stored in our little nursery nook. Here’s where we keep them in the house instead:
Toys and books
We have a bin full of baby toys tucked away under a bench in our living room, which is where we usually play during the day. Books live on a bookshelf in the playroom.
(I wrote an article all about how to organize kids’ books- you can check it out here!)
Clothes that are too small or too big
Baby clothes can take up so much space! Especially since babies are constantly growing and switching into the next size.
Since we don’t have a closet in our nursery nook, we don’t store clothes there unless they are current for both size and season.
So where do we keep all the other clothes?
The short answer is: in a closet in a different room in the house (our playroom.) But I actually wrote a whole article about how we organize and store outgrown baby clothes. Check it out here.
Baby gear
Some of our baby gear is scattered throughout the house, in whatever area it is most likely to be used. We have a bouncy seat in the dining room. The diaper bag and carseat are stored in the entryway. The play mat is in the living room.
But most of the baby gear is stored in bins in the same closet where we keep the outgrown baby clothes. I have bins for bottles and pumping supplies, toys, baby carriers, etc. You can also read about how I organize all of those things in my article about organizing baby clothes.
That’s it!
Do you have any tips for organizing a small nursery that I missed? I’d love to hear them! Let me know in the comments.
Thanks so much for reading!
