23 non-toy Christmas gift ideas for your kids

If your kids already have more than enough toys, and you’re looking for meaningful, practical Christmas gifts for them that they will actually use and enjoy, then look no further.

I’ve gathered a list of my favorite ideas for non-toy Christmas gifts, and I’m so excited to share them with you.

1. An umbrella

My kids love umbrellas, and this one is as cute as it is practical.

2. Rain boots

If you’re going with the umbrella, you might as well stick with the theme and gift your kids an adorable pair of light up rain boots as well! Just think how much fun they’ll have when those April showers come this spring.

3. A new toothbrush

New toothbrushes every few months are a necessity- why not make it fun by picking out an electric toothbrush with your child’s favorite character on it?

4. Pajamas

My kids love a new pair of warm, soft pajamas. And they love wearing bathrobes during the cold winter months. How adorable is this one?! A new pair of fuzzy slippers or house shoes is another really fun idea.

5. A reusable water bottle

Each of our kids has his/her own water bottle that they keep in their bedroom with them at night, and take with them in the car when we go on trips. Pick a different color or pattern for each kid, and you’ll always know whose is whose.

6. Gum

Do you remember this stuff? My kids love bubble gum, and they don’t get it very often, so this is the perfect stocking stuffer for them.

7. New sheets/bedding

A new bedding set is an easy way to transform your child’s room and make it feel brand new!

8. Hair care products

My kids are really into doing their own hair, so I know they would love a hair care set like this one, or even new combs, brushes, or bows.

9. A new backpack or lunchbox

If your child’s backpack has been showing some wear and tear, now would be a great time to gift them with a new one.

10. A duffel bag, suitcase, or travel toiletry bag

My kids love packing their own bags before heading off to a sleepover with their grandparents. And this kid-friendly travel toiletry bag is just so fun.

11. Art supplies

Christmas is a great time to restock on your kids’ favorite art and craft supplies. Here are a few of our favorites:

• Oil pastels (We like these even better than crayons)
• Construction paper
• A big set of brand new markers
• Paint sticks
• Watercolors (this set is great- much more vibrant than Crayola)
• A new set of paintbrushes

12. A new cup

We’re fans of a different color cup for each kid in our family. That way, each kid can use their cup all day without getting a new one out. Plus, I have a favorite cup that I carry around and drink out of all day, so having their own cups makes my kids feel very grown up.

13. New books

There’s something really special about brand new books- especially Christmas books. Some of my favorite memories as a kid were opening up the big cardboard box filled with Christmas books each December, and pulling out all of our old favorites year after year.

14. A magazine or photo book subscription

We absolutely LOVE Chatbooks, which is an affordable and kid-friendly photo book subscription service.

They make it easy to get the photos off your phone and into books that your kids can look at over and over. The monthly minis are our favorites. Check them out here.

15. Toiletries

My girls love receiving gifts like lip gloss, lotion, nail files, and bubble bath.

16. An alarm clock

An alarm clock of their own will make any kid feel so grown up. And the OK to Wake clocks are one of our personal favorites for teaching kids to stay in their beds or bedrooms until it’s actually time to get up. 🙂

17. A flashlight or reading light for their bed

Kids love using flashlights, and they can actually really come in handy during camping trips or for reading in bed. Or, check out this clip-on reading light.

18. A sleeping bag

From sleepovers to camp-outs, sleeping bags are handy investments and tons of fun for kids. (Maybe you’ll even want to try them out by sleeping under the Christmas tree on Christmas night!)

19. A watch

A watch: Another example of something that kids love because it makes them feel so grownup. And what a great way for them to practice telling time!

20. A wallet or bank

Your kids will loving keeping their money in their own wallet or bank. (And this cute piggy bank even counts your coins as you drop them in- how fun!)

21. A hat and gloves

Are your kids ready to play outside all winter? If not, Christmas is a great time to make sure they’re ready. This cute set even comes with a neck warmer.

22. Headphones

We invested in a separate pair of quality headphones for each of our kids. (You can buy different colors to make it easy to keep track of whose is whose.) Then we check out audiobooks from our library, and the kids love to listen during their quiet time. So it’s really a gift for mom and dad, too. 😉

23. A CD player

Well, this CD player brings back memories from when I was a kid! (Or should we talk about boom boxes? Haha!)

We gave my kids a CD player like this one, and they love it! They play all of our old CDs, and we check out books on CD from the library like these:
