It’s an unlikely location for a gift wrapping station: The unfinished closet under our basement stairs.
But, to be honest, it’s kind of the perfect spot for it.
It’s hidden, tucked out of sight, and relatively undisturbed most of the year, except for birthdays and weddings here and there.
Until December, that is, when this secret spot turns into Santa’s busy little workshop!

Today I’m taking you on a little tour of all the nooks and crannies of our gift wrapping station:

A flat surface to wrap

My husband build this table/shelf for us to fit perfectly into this space. We try to keep the top relatively clear so that we can use it for wrapping. I do keep my cutting mat and a tape dispenser sitting out, though.
We also usually have a pile of gifts stacked off to one side that are waiting to be wrapped. (As soon as they’re wrapped, I put them right under the Christmas tree.)

Accessories

We installed a pegboard so that we could hang a few things including a pair of scissors or two. I can’t tell you how nice it is to never have to search for a pair of scissors before beginning to wrap! I love having a dedicated spot for them.

We also hung this shelf, which has cute little hooks for a few smaller gift bags, and a bucket where I keep a few pens and markers for writing cards and labels.
Inside the baskets I keep ribbons and bows.
Wrapping paper

We hung 7 dowels on the wall. They can be removed to add or replace wrapping paper as it runs out. Throughout the year I try to keep a variety of wrapping paper for birthdays, weddings, etc. I add a few different rolls of Christmas paper at this time of year.

Gift bags
While I do hang up a few small gift bags, the majority of them are stored in open boxes that fit on the shelf right below the gift wrapping station.

I have two of these shallow boxes, which I stack on top of each other. One is for Christmas gift bags, and the other is for all other gift bags. During the non-Christmas season I keep the Christmas box underneath, and then I swap the two boxes at the beginning of December.
Seasonal decorations and storage
This is what the shelf under our gift wrapping station looks like:

On this top shelf, I keep seasonal items and decorations: one box each for Spring (mostly Easter) Fall (Halloween and Thanksgiving) and birthday supplies and decorations. There is also some space behind each of these bins where we store larger decorative pieces.
Note: These lidded storage bins were originally from Target. They don’t seem to be available anymore, but Target usually has some similar items in stock.

The bottom shelf is for Christmas items and decorations. It could use a little clean-up, and maybe some matching bins eventually, but for now, this is what it looks like.
And that’s it!
What do you think? Even though it’s in an unlikely, and unfinished space, it makes me so happy. I love having a special space dedicated to organizing all of our wrapping supplies, and it makes gift wrapping and giving that much more fun.

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions (you can always leave a comment below.) Happy organizing, and Merry Christmas!
