12 creative first birthday party theme ideas

Where did that year go?!!

At least, that’s what I was thinking as I started to browse first birthday party theme ideas, in anticipation of Andrew’s big day.

That first year really does fly by. And it’s not always easy! So I would just like to give you all the permission in the world to celebrate that first birthday however big or however small you want to.

And if you’re searching for inspiration, I found a ton of super cute, really creative birthday party ideas for you.

Have fun planning!

1. Oh the places you’ll go

I love this unique birthday party idea: Brittany created a world traveler theme by using maps to create everything from water bottle labels to birthday hats. She also used luggage and globes as party decor.

2. Wild Western

So many details went into this cowboy themed first birthday party. I really love the stick horses and hay bales, along with the cowboy costumes. Adorable!

3. Construction zone

The signs and labels for this construction themed birthday party are fantastic! Plus, using orange cones to decorate is so smart.

4. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

If you’re looking to throw a glamorous first birthday party, this one has you covered with all the gold, glitter, and pastels. Plus, these desserts look incredibly delicious!

5. Happy first bee-day!

There’s so much you can do with this white and yellow honeybee theme. Daisies fit perfectly into the theme as a decoration, and that bee cake is really adorable.

Here is a slightly different take on the honeybee party. I love the use of flowers and leaves.

6. Donut grow up

It’s no secret that I love donuts… so of course I thought this first birthday party theme was genius. My favorite part of this party is the creative centerpiece idea.

7. Wild One

If your little one loves the book Where the Wild Things Are, then this is a really fun theme idea for you! I love all of the forest animal decorations, and the yummy looking desserts.

8. A Peachy Party

I love this unique party theme idea! The colors and decorations were so sweet and whimsical.

9. You’re one in a melon (watermelon theme)

This is a great theme, especially if your baby has a summer birthday, or if you love bright colors!

10. Peter Rabbit

This is such a creative theme. My favorite part was the carrot and celery sticks in the flower pots. And, of course, you have to have carrot cake.

11. Winnie the Pooh

This theme is timeless. Who doesn’t love Winnie the Pooh? I also thought the donut wall was really fun.

12. Home one! (Baseball theme)

I saved my favorite for last. I think a baseball theme has so much potential, and this party had all of the details down. The labels were great. I liked the concessions sign, and there was even a bucket on the table for peanut shells.

Which first birthday party theme is your favorite?

Let me know in the comments. Hopefully you’ve found some inspiration here. Have a great time planning- and celebrating- your little one’s first birthday!
