I was pregnant with my first baby over five years ago.
And now that I’m taking care of my third baby, I’m looking back and realizing that there are some baby products that I really should have been using all along.
And now that I know they exist, I have to share them with you.
So here they are: 6 things that I wish I had with baby #1… and am absolutely loving with baby #3!

1. A backpack style diaper bag

HaloVa Diaper Bag, Baby Daddy Mommy… | Buy on Amazon |
Where has this diaper bag been all my life?! It is amazing.
It seems like all of a sudden, everyone is switching to the backpack diaper bags, and it’s no wonder. This bag fits so much more, and is so much better organized than the over-the-shoulder bag I used to carry.
Plus, I cannot explain how great it is to have your arms free while carrying this bag.
I didn’t think it would make that much of a difference.
It does.
By the way, if you want to see how I organize my diaper bag, you can read this post on newborn diaper bag essentials, or this one for older babies and toddlers.
2. The Haakaa

haakaa Manual Breast Pump for… | $12.94 | Buy on Amazon |
This is such a handy dandy little device!
Here’s how it works: You collect milk using this little cup while you’re breastfeeding your baby (on the other side.)
That’s it! I used it for the first few weeks after I had Andrew, and managed to build up a good supply of milk in the freezer without even trying, and without using a breast pump.
Genius.
3. Teething Mittens

Delight Paw Baby Teething Mitten Mom… | $5.99 | Buy on Amazon |
This is one of the smartest, and funniest baby products I’ve ever seen. And Andrew loves them!
They’re little mittens that you can strap on to your baby’s hands. When they try to suck on their fingers, they end up chewing on the teether instead.
I love them because Andrew naturally chews his fingers until they’re red and chapped, so these stop him from doing that.
He also started teething really early- before he was even able to hold a teething toy by himself. So this allowed him to get some relief without me sitting there and holding a teether in his mouth for him.
4. The HALO bassinet

HALO BassiNest Glide Sleeper, Bedside… | $324.00 | Buy on Amazon |
When they were newborns, Emma and Kate both slept by my bed in our rock-n-play. Since then, all inclined infant sleepers have been recalled and are now considered dangerous for baby sleep.
So I did some research, and we decided to purchase this bassinet-sleeper for Andrew’s first few months. And we love it!
The legs can go right under your bed. Then you can pull the bassinet portion as close to your bed as you want.
It can actually slide right on top of your bed, so it’s almost like your baby is right in bed with you. The side can be bent down, which means that I was able to reach Andrew in the middle of the night without even getting up.
We also use this mattress pad and these fitted sheets with our HALO bassinet. With Andrew’s reflux, it was really helpful to be able to put new sheets on every morning and toss the old ones in the laundry.
5. An electric nail file

Baby Nail Trimmer Electric, FANSIDI Baby… | $17.99 | Buy on Amazon |
Is there anything more terrifying than clipping a baby’s fingernails?
Their nails are so tiny, and they are so wiggly. I’m always scared that I’ll accidentally clip a finger. It’s no nerve-wracking!
Then I discovered this electric baby nail file.
The rotating file works really well. (I even use it to file my own nails.) But the best part is that it can’t hurt little fingers. Andrew actually giggles when I accidentally touch his fingertips with the file- it tickles!
6. The Nose Frida

Frida Baby NoseFrida SnotSucker Nasal… | $14.99 | Buy on Amazon |
Oh, the joys of having a baby with acid reflux.
We often have to clear Andrew’s nose at night so that he can breath well enough to eat.
A bulb syringe with some saline does the trick. However, after a while, our bulb syringe started growing mold, and I just couldn’t get it clean.
Gross.
The Nose Frida works just as well, with one big advantage: It is super easy to clean. Which is awesome. 🙂
So, that’s it: 6 genius baby products that I wish I had with my first baby… and am loving with my third! Do you have anything that you would add to the list? I’d love to hear it in the comments!
Thanks so much for reading,
-Laura
