Simple solutions to help calm the chaos of motherhood

Watermelon frog fruit bowl

Last summer I shared how to make a watermelon frog fruit bowl over on Instagram. (You can watch the video here.)

This is such a fun picnic or pool party dish to bring along to your next event, so today I thought I’d share how we made it!

Supply list

Here’s everything you’ll need to make this fun, frog-shaped watermelon fruit bowl:

  • 1 watermelon
  • A melon baller
  • Other fruit for your fruit salad (we used cantaloup and strawberries)
  • Mini cucumber slices and googly eyes for the eyes
  • A Twizzler for the tongue

How to make a watermelon frog fruit bowl:

Step 1: Cut a wedge out of the watermelon rind to be the frog’s mouth

You can see how I did this in the video above. Don’t throw away the piece of rind- you can cut “toes” into it and use the pieces as the frog’s feet!

Step 2: Use a melon baller to scoop out all of the watermelon.

You can also cut up whatever other fruit you want to use. We added cantaloup and strawberries. I only added the nice, round, pieces of watermelon to our fruit bowl- the weird shaped pieces I just gave to my kids to snack on.

Step 3: Assemble the frog fruit bowl

Carefully spoon the fruit back into the watermelon frog. Sit it onto the watermelon rind feet.

We added a few accessories to make it look more like a frog: Cucumber slices and googly eyes for the the eyes. (I used half a toothpick to attach them.) And then a Twizzler for the tongue.

This was so much fun to make. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments, or over on Instagram. Have fun!
