For the first few months of his life, our newborn will be sleeping in our bedroom in a basinet by our bed.
It just makes sense.
Newborn babies wake up so many times a night that it’s just convenient to have them close by.
But what I’ve finally learned, after three other babies, is that it’s even more convenient to have a whole mini-nursery in your master bedroom, as long as space allows.
And lucky for us, it does!
So today I’m sharing with you our entire (temporary) master bedroom nursery.
And with 3 weeks down, I can say that it’s been absolutely amazing so far. What a difference to have everything we could possibly need in the middle of the night right there in our bedroom, instead of in a separate nursery.

The changing table
In the official nursery, we have a whole dresser with a changing pad on top. Here in the bedroom, we wanted a small changing table for nighttime changes, with just enough storage space for any other essentials we might need during the night.

Under the changing table, I found a little trash can we could use for dirty diapers.
The basket next to the trash can is for all the extra diapers and wipes.
The next basket is filled with clean pajamas and swaddles. Which has come in handy when Samuel needs a change in the middle of the night because he spits up all over himself.
And the last basket has extra mattress pads and sheets for his bassinet, and extra changing pad liners.
(When your baby spits up as much and mine does, it’s very handy to have all these extras ready to go!)

Nursing station
Next to the changing table, I have a little nighttime nursing station set up.
On top of the nightstand, along with a lamp and a clock radio that I think I’ve had since 5th grade 🤣 I also keep:
- Lotion
- Water
- Chapstick
- A small touch-activated light (perfect for nighttime nursing because it gives me just enough light without lighting up the entire room)
- The charger for my computer
I often bring my computer up here and use headphones to watch Netflix while I’m feeding the baby to keep myself awake.
I usually keep my phone on one arm of my chair (where you can see my charger) and a burp cloth on the other. And I use this little pillow, which I actually find more comfortable than my nursing pillow.
My bathrobe is tucked behind the chair in case I’m feeling chilly.
In the drawer of the nightstand I keep snacks and nursing pads.
Under the nightstand I have a basket with just a few more supplies:
- Tissues
- My haakaa
- Extra burp cloths
- Extra nursing pads

Our bassinet
This is where Samuel sleeps, for now. I love having him super close to me while I sleep without actually having him in our bed.
Each morning, I try to make sure that I have it ready to go for the next night, with a fresh sheet, if needed, and a clean swaddle ready to go.

That’s it!
Almost all of these things will get moved to Samuel’s own room when he’s ready to start sleeping in his crib. But for now, I am loving this little nursery nook in our master bedroom.
I’m trying to enjoy every moment with our baby while he’s so little, even if it’s in the middle of the night. And having the right set-up makes enjoying those moments just a little bit easier. 😉
