The Organized Mom Life

The Organized Mom Life

Simple organization for busy moms

Where to buy maternity clothes

I’m one of those people who think that pregnant women are just so cute, and I think it’s fun to show off an adorable baby bump with a great maternity outfit.

But- I’ll admit- shopping for maternity clothes can be a little intimidating. Where do you even start? And do you really want to spend a lot of money on something you’re only going to wear for a few more months?

Below you’ll find a list of places to shop for maternity clothes- both used and new, along with some details that will help you figure out which options are right for you.

After reading, you’ll have a much better idea about where to start. You’ll be a little more excited and a little less overwhelmed!

Where to shop for used maternity clothes

1. Shop in your own closet

Sound crazy? It’s not! Some of the clothes that you already own at this very moment, you will still be able to wear throughout your pregnancy.

For example, you can still wear your normal cardigans layered over a maternity shirt- just don’t button them. Long tank tops and long, stretchy T-shirts will probably work for a while, too, especially for layering. Stretchy skirts and yoga pants? Try them! You might be surprised to find that they still fit just fine.

2. Borrow from a friend who just had a baby

Some of my favorite maternity outfits were lent to me by friends who had babies recently.

The best thing about borrowed clothes? You can give them back when you’re done- as opposed to finding somewhere in your house to store them!

3. Facebook marketplace

Do a quick search and see if anyone near you is selling a lot of maternity clothes in your size. This is usually a great way to get lightly used clothes at a great deal.

I got a lot of 50 items for $50, and even though I didn’t use every single piece, it was more than worth it for the ones that I did wear.

4. Yard sales

If you’re lucky, you might be able to find maternity clothes at a real yard sale as well.

5. Ebay or Craigslist

If you regularly buy items from Ebay or Craigslist, why not do a quick search there to see if anyone is selling a lot of maternity clothes in your size?

6. Consignment shops and sales

I’ve had some luck finding great maternity clothes at kids’ consignment sales. You might think of these sales or shops as good places to look for baby clothes- and they are- but many of them will also have a maternity clothes section.

I love this because you can go and see the clothes in person before buying them, and some of the money you spend will usually go back to the mom who donated them.

7. Thread-up

This is a website that sells used clothing, including a fairly large selection of maternity clothing.

Each piece is really carefully examined, so if anything is damaged in any way, they’ll tell you. They also photograph each piece pretty carefully, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

8. Swap.com

Another website that sells gently used clothes. It’s very similar to Thread-up with an impressively large selection.

Where to shop for new maternity clothes

I created the list below to help you navigate some of the more popular stores and websites to shop for new maternity clothes.

I’ve included whether each company sells maternity clothes at an actual store (where you could go in and try things on), the link for shopping online, as well as an approximate price guide, which is based entirely on my own unofficial opinions and observations. 😉

1. Target

  • Can you shop in store? Yes
  • Website: Target maternity online
  • Prices: Moderate
  • My Target has a relatively small maternity section in store, but it’s worth checking out. They always have a bunch of extra long tank tops and T-shirts that are great for layering, as well as a small selection of dresses, pants, shorts, etc.

2. Kohl’s

  • Can you shop in store? Yes
  • Website: Kohl’s maternity online
  • Prices: Moderate
  • Kohl’s has a small maternity section- similar in size and selection to Target. They also usually have one rack of clearance maternity clothes, which is nice.

3. Old Navy

  • Can you shop in store? Not usually
  • Website: Old Navy maternity online
  • Prices: Moderate

4. Gap

  • Can you shop in store? Not usually
  • Website: Gap maternity online
  • Prices: Expensive

5. Zulily

  • Can you shop in store? No
  • Website: Zulily Maternity Clothes
  • Prices: Moderate
  • I find Zulily’s maternity clothes to be really cute and stylish. The drawback is that you can’t try anything on before buying. You’ll also need to create an account to even begin browsing the site.

6. Pink Blush

  • Can you shop in store? No
  • Website: Pink Blush maternity online
  • Prices: Expensive

7. Burlington

  • Can you shop in store? Yes
  • Website: Burlington maternity online
  • Prices: Inexpensive

8. H&M

  • Can you shop in store? Yes
  • Website: H&M maternity online
  • Prices: Moderate

9. Loft

  • Can you shop in store? Not usually
  • Website: Loft maternity online
  • Prices: Expensive

10. Motherhood Maternity

  • Can you shop in store? Yes
  • Website: Motherhood Maternity online
  • Prices: Moderate
  • I visited a Motherhood Maternity outlet shop for the first time the other day to buy a swimsuit for the summer. For such a small shop, they had a large selection of high quality items. (I had 15-20 different swimsuit options to choose from.) They do tend to be on the more expensive side, but if you sign up for emails, they’ll regularly send you sale updates and coupon codes.

11. JCPenny

  • Can you shop in store? Not usually
  • Website: JCPenny maternity online
  • Prices: Inexpensive

Note: As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. The following is an affiliate link, meaning that if you choose to click through and make a purchase, I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you.

12. Amazon

  • Can you shop in store? No
  • Website: (Amazon affiliate link) Amazon maternity shop
  • Prices: Moderate
  • You can buy anything on Amazon- including maternity clothes, it turns out. Just do your research, and be sure to check reviews before you buy anything.

13. Macy’s

  • Can you shop in store? Yes
  • Website: Macy’s maternity online
  • Prices: Moderate

14. A Pea in the Pod

  • Can you shop in store? Yes
  • Website: A Pea in the Pod maternity online
  • Prices: Expensive

15. TJ Maxx / Marshalls / Ross

  • Can you shop in store? Yes
  • Website: None
  • Prices: Inexpensive

Now it’s time to browse some of the links above and begin exploring your options. Contact a friend about borrowing clothes. Make an initial purchase or two.

If you still need more inspiration before you’re ready to embrace your new maternity style, spend a few minutes browsing my maternity fashion Pinterest board for ideas. Have fun!
